Scientists rediscover climate change resistant Stenophylla coffee plant from West Africa

But the climate crisis is putting the world's love for coffee under threat as beans become difficult to grow as temperatures rise. However scientists have rediscovered a climate-proof coffee-plant called Stenophylla from West Africa that tastes like Arabica coffee. "We think we have a really important discovery because we've found a coffee that grows at higher temperatures but also has those qualities that the consumer requires from coffee i.e. a fantastic taste." Arabica, which is widely used for instant coffee and in coffee blends have limited resilience against climate change. And researchers say the production of global Arabica could plunge by at least 50 percent by 2050.
